Adobe Acrobat Won't Start

Hi,

All of a sudden my Acrobat reader 6.0 won't fire up, and
I can't work out why. I've downloaded and reinstalled it
4 times, and the some problem persists. Basically when I
execute Adobe, it starts, brings up the into screen, and
then shutsdown. I've not installed any other software
around the time the problem began, and so I suspect the
problem may lie with Windows XP.

Has anyone got any ideas about why I have this problem?

Yours Truly,

Stuart Jones

It may not be able to install because the program is
corrupted. I have found that the file called data tends to
easily become corrupted and have burned a copy of Acrobat
6 to a CD to ensure I have a good copy after checking that
the data cab file is uncorrupted by unzipping it with
winzip. If it unzips without problems it's not corrupted
and Acrobat should install. If it does not unzip without
problems download it again and burn a copy to CD before it
gets corrupted. If you are downloading it and it is a
trial version the 30 day trial period may have run out but
I guess it would inform you of this rather than not
installing. Try uninstalling the old program before
installing the new. Also try turning off other programs
before you install it. Good luck.

I may be missing part of this post but I have to ask! Why is what he is
trying to do "illegal"?

If you purchase a copy from the Adobe web site it is entirely legal to copy
the downloaded file to a CD. Of course the issue here is "did he purchase it
or obtain it elsewhere"?
