I am on XP Pro, am the sole user of the computer, not on a network. In "user Accounts" I am logged as the administrator. However, whenever I try to perform certain tasks I get a propmpt saying "you do not have permission...etc" This is VERYT ANNOYING! as I am the only guy using the PC! Any ideas as to how I can stop my rebelious PC from denying me access to my own damn computer???

Hi:

Start\Run\secpol.msc\enable directives or add the administrators
group where needed. Specifically take ownership of folders and objects,

here's more on permissions, security, taking ownership, etc.
My advice is to print these pages to follow procedures.

Describe the "certain tasks" you are trying to perform.

The tasks I am prevented from doing are 1) Accessing files and folder. 2) Changing accounts. 3) Dowloading from the Internet.

JUAN: I have managed to gain some kind of control thanks to your references to those web sites. However, when I run wmimgmt, msc > Properties I get "Failed to connect to Local Computer because WMI generic failure". And I still cannot get permission to download from the 'Net.

(1) what are the permissions for the files/folders which you are denied
access to ?
(2) do you mean log off and log on a different account, or do you mean
change account settings ?
(3) in Internet Options > Security tab > Custom Level, what are the settings
for Download ?

JW: In Internet Options the security settings are set at default. I am denied permission to download to CD or DVD but can download to my documents!!! I then need to transfer from mydocs to the storeage medium...Very frustrating!
