Administrator's password?

My Win. XP Pro. came pre-loaded from Dell. As a result,
the sequence to get to the Recovery Console is different
from that publicized by MS. But when I got there, it asked
for the Administrador's password! I entered my own PW but
it rejected it, even though I am the registered owner of
the machine and am defined as administrator.

Any clues about discovering how to go about finding out
the Administrator's PW?

Thanks,
Xavier

Dell should of sent you the password. Due to the nature of this question I
would ask you to call Dell they will be happy to give you the default
password for the pre-loaded system they sent you. You may want to check the
checklist that came with your PC it should have the Admin password on it.

Is the password blank?

Dells default password is actually blank. Try just not entering a password
and see if that gets you in. It does on my Dell.

I tried not entering a password and also entering one
blank. But it didn't accept it in either case.

Or try this,
Start | Run | Regedit
Navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Setup\Recover
yConsole
Set the DWORD SecurityLevel value to 1
Exit Registry and Reboot

But, as with any registry editing, it is always a good idea to backup the
registry before you make any changes.

Greetings --

The password being requested is that of the built-in Administrator
account, not the password for any other administrative user accounts
you may have created. Unless you've deliberately set the
Administrator's password via the Management Console (_not_ the Control
Panel), it's probably still blank. WinXP Pro asks you to set the
Administrator's password during installation, but WinXP Home doesn't.

I did a little checking and try these. Password, password or
Administrator, administrator or Admin, admin also try System, system the 2
entries are for upper and lower case on first letter.
