Administrators only error prevents WinUpdate ability

When I try to use Windows Update, get Administrators Only
Error. MS tech instructions don't work. Have removed virus
and firewall software and am only administrator but still
doesn't work. (Can't modify Http settings as instructed by
MS site info because ISP doesn't use proxy servers.) Am
nervous with new virus out there and no ability to get new
security stuff from MS. Anyhelp would be most appreciated.
