I set up my e-mail and desktop under administrator then set up a user account
for my wife. Now i can't get back to the administrator account.

Don't mess with the administator account. It's like a "master" account
if you will. Set yourself up a user account with administrator privledges
 
Don't really want to mess with it, just want to access the e-mail messages
that were there.
