I am a administrator, but it only gives me the rights as a limited account.
It says permission denied when i try to create, change administrator to limit
and limit to administrator, and quotes You do not have the permision to use
"add/remove Windows componets. Ask a computer adminstator to install the
opitoanal components for you. it also says i dont have permison to acces a
few folders. Yet it says i am the administrator! I am running a windows xp
home edition. I have a limited knowledge in computers. So please be

Double check that you are indeed logged on as a local administrator. One
quick way to check is to access the command prompt and run the command " net
localgroup administrators " not using the quotes to see what users are
local administrators. If you are unsure on how to open the command windows
then in the run box type cmd.exe and hit OK and then move your mouse cursor
over that command window to type commands. After you type the command press
enter. Below is similar to what you should see other than Steve is my user
account but as you can see only Steve and administrator are in the local
administrators group on my computer. You should also be able to access the
built in Administrator account in XP Home by booting into Safe Mode and then
it will appear and probably does not need a password unless you gave it one
at one time. --- Steve

I can't access folders and can't save anything. I keep getting this error
message." This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on
this computer. Please contact system administrator." I followed the below
instructions and I have no restrictions. I'm at a lost at what to do next.

I have the same problem with XP Home. It just after the boot yesterday
morning. The "net localgroup administrators" says I am the administrator. I
know I am and always have been the only one.

Unless you installed an application and configured it to protect your
computer as you can with many spyware programs particularly if you are not
careful in what you say yes to you most likely have been infected with a
virus or spyware and should take appropriate steps to check for and remove
such but even that may not restore full functionality to your computer. If
you need any help with how to deal with spyware and malware let us know and
see the link below which includes links on basic steps to protect your
computer and how to deal with malware and spyware. AdAware SE is a pretty
good spyware detection and removal program if you currently do not have one
installed and it is free for personal use.

Beyond that what you could try is to check the registry to see if you can
find and remove and registry entries that may be causing the problem. Logon
as an administrator and use regedit to open the registry editor. Then
navigate to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies and
delete any keys you find under policies such as if you see one for Explorer,
etc. Just go to the key, right click and select delete. Then exit registry
editor and reboot the computer to see if that helps. --- Steve
