Administrator problems on personal laptop

Is there any way to disable admin on my laptop? I have a Dell Latitude D300
with xp pro that I got from ebay. When I try to download certain programs
(Adobe Reader, Windows Update,etc...) I get "You need to be sighned on as
administrator". When I do I get the same message.
Help, I can't finish my online schooling without Adobe Reader. Thanks...ed

Yes you can disable the account in computer management but before you do that
make sure you have admin rights on that machine, since you bought it on ebay
i would change the admin pw first before you disable the account. Doing that
wont stop you from getting the error.
