Administrator Password

Cody

Upon installing Win2K, we get a signon that already has "administrator" as
the user name and the password I created during setup does not work with
"administrator" or the user name I created. The error reads:

"The system could not log you on. Make sure your user name and domain are
correct, then type your password again ..."

Thanks

Cody

Hi Cody,

Thanks for posting here.

During the installation, the system will create the administrator account
and inform you to input the password for it. The administrator is for the
local computer. It's not for the domain if you join the computer to the
domain. When you logon, please make sure you logon to the computer locally.

1. Press Ctrl-Alt-Del at the logon window
2. Click the "Options >>" button
3. Make sure the "Log on to" window is selected to "<computer name> (this
computer)"
4. Input the user name in the "User name" box and input the password in the
Password box

If you still can't logon to the Windows 2000, I think you may mark the
wrong password. We have to reinstall the Windows 2000 to re-create the
password. There has no way to bypass this.

Thanks for using Microsoft Newsgroup!

I hate to admit this but the reason I couldn't get in is because, without
thinking after putting in the product key code in all caps, I made my
password in caps too and was trying to logon using lower case.

How embarassing ...

At least it was a simple fix! :) We all overlook something simple sometime!
