ADMINISTRATOR GONE!

Hi,
After a massive virus bombardment, particularily also the WinAntiSpyware
2007, I found that not only my Control Panel, but all other so-called
administrator rights are gone when I turn on my computer.
I got rid of the viruses, but the Control Panel as well as the administrator
rights, I can't get back.
I tried system restore, but it isn't permitted.
Anything that I tried to do that might go "deeper' into my sytem, isn't
permitted...
How do I change these settings?
How do I get the control Panel back?
Thanks for the help!

Hello,

normally when in Safe Mode (before Windows is started, press F8 and choose
Safe Mode), you can log on with the inbuilt Administrator account. There,
you should be able to bring administrative rights back to your account.

Good luck, I hope it will help.
Greetings,

Since you say you had a "massive virus bombardment", probably the best
solution at this point is to back up your data and do a clean install of
Windows. It really does sound like too much of the operating system has
been damaged. You can try a Repair Install first, but I wouldn't be too
hopeful about it.

Hello Malke,
Yes, I think you are right,... probably the best solution just to have it
all cleaned up. I was told in the process of getting rid of the many and
various viruses, that bits of older anti-virus products were still running in
the system which caused the newer products not to work properly....which I
found strange since those particular bits were over three years old, but
nevermind.
Every virus leaves its mark, whether big or small....so what with the
collection that has built up over the more than three years...
After the sytem is all shiny and fresh, is it it just a matter of updating
my current anti virus/antispyware/anti malware/firewall product regularily
(I'm using the AVG currently)?
Or do you suggest also adding, or doing, extra stuff?
Thanks again for your help!

I personally prefer Avast to AVG, but NOD32 and Kaspersky are really
good if you don't mind paying. Stay away from Norton and McAfee. I think
the Windows Firewall is fine for most people and I use the free Ad-aware
and Spybot Search & Destroy programs on my Windows machines. The most
important part of security is the user - practicing "Safe Hex".
