Administrator Account

Sandra

Yesterday I set up a new account on my computer and when I
restarted the computer my original Administrator account
is gone or at least not visible to me. Any suggestions on
where it could be????? Thanks!

It's hidden by default.
In Home Edition, boot into safe mode.
In Pro, at the welcome screen, press Ctl-Alt-Del twice and type in the
details.

BTW, it is NOT a good idea to use the built-in Administrator account for
day-to-day use. Create a User with Admin rights and use that. If your Admin
account goes belly-up, there is NO EASY WAY (other than a repair install of
XP) to access your data

Once you have created regular user accounts, the default Administrator
account vanishes from the Welcome screen, which you see when the computer
starts up. Press Ctrl-Alt-Delete twice at the Welcome screen to retrieve the
standard logon dialog. You can log on as Administrator from there.

Enable Administrator account on Welcome Screen

The account called 'Administrator' is to be regarded as a reserve
account for emergencies, and as such becomes hidden as soon as you make
a regular account with Admin status, for day to day use. If you should
need the Administrator one ever, get at it by booting and hitting F8 as
the BIOS info goes to black, then take Safe Mode, when its icon will
appear in Welcome.
