how do I get where I can normaly log onto that account? I set it up with all
my preferences and now cannot get onto it and don't want to have to set up a
different account with all those preferences, is there any way I can get on
it other than safe mode or transfer ALL the settings to a new account? It
should really tell you you won't have access so you don't set up the
preferences just to do it again...

While the "best practice" is to leave the default administrator account in
reserve, I can understand why you might want to handle it differently. Two
ways to do this:

TweakUI for XP allows you to force the display of the Administrator account
on the Welcome Screen. Can download this program here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx
PLEASE read the system requirements on that download page - especially for
service pack level.

Or you can give this a try:
"Enable the Administrator account on the Welcome Screen"

thanks for the reply, the only reason I want to use the admin account is as I
said I set up the preferences and made some changes and wasn't aware that it
was going to be inaccesable...

Yes, understand that too. It's certainly not obvious that creating another
user account within the administrator account will make built in account
(usually named Administrator) disappear. "Losing" that account is a common
problem as you can tell browsing these newsgroups.
