Hi

I am hoping someone can help me - its appears that the administrator account
has disappeared - My husband and I both have our accounts but neither of us
seem to be the administrators

Initially when i set this up I am sure that I was the one with the
administrator access - now neither of us seems to have it

Because of this neither of us can access the user accounts and we can not
download software etc

Any ideas how I can get back the administrator access??

Hoping for a positive response :)

Thanks in advance

Confused

I'm assuming that when you tried that first option and used Safe Mode that
an account called Administrator did not appear on the logon screen? This is
troubling because if no other administrator accounts are active on the
system, then the built-in Administrator account should appear in Safe Mode.

The next time you log onto the system, go to Start and type: cmd.exe
and press Enter. This will open the command prompt.

In the command window, type: net user and press Enter. (Including the
space)

This should result in a list of all the accounts on the system.

Next perform the following for all of the accounts shown, except the Guest
account.

Type: net user accountname and press Enter.

(Where accountname is the name of one of the accounts) Perform this for all
of the accounts on the system.

After this is completed, right click an empty spot in the command window and
click Select All from the menu. Press the Enter Key and this will copy all
of the text to the clipboard. Paste the results in a reply to this message.

Confused

Sorry for the delay.

Strange, the net user results show that both the Nina and the Nick accounts
are in the Administrators group? This means that they both have
administrator privileges.

Do you have User Account Control turned off? Go to Start and type: user
In the results click User Accounts. It should open showing the account that
is currently logged on. Click the "Turn user account control on or off"
option. What happens when you do this? If you get a UAC prompt, click the
Continue Button. Is there a check mark in the UAC box there?

Also try going to Start and type: cmd.exe In the results, right click
the cmd.exe itam and select the Run As Administrator option. What happens?

Go to the following website to fix this. There are 3 options there
that
you
can use. Hopefully, option 1 will work and you can use that option
to
change
one of your accounts back to an administrator account in Control
Panel/User
Accounts.

What do I do: I can no longer log in or elevate to an administrator
account:

Hello,

Based on what you've said, your accounts really are administrator accounts.

Can you go into more detail as to what you are trying to do that isn't
working, giving the actual error messages, etc?

Hi

Sory for delay i have been away

there is no error message - I just can not gain access to user accounts - I
double click on the icon and nothing happens

CMD.exe screen when i type in net user comes up with

Administrator Guest Nick
Nina

When i look at net user administrator it says that the account is not active
net user nina says the account is active - local group member ship -
administrator
net user nick account is active - local group membership - administrator user
net user guest account is not active

at the log in screen there are only log in icons for me and Nick there is no
administrator log in which i am told is strange

If you have any idea how i can get the administrator account back or how i
can access user accounts i'd really appreciate it

Thanks

I have the similar problem. I've changed the ASP.net account name and then
elavated to administrator account. My original account to the standard
account.

Everytime I want to change the settings, Mess. box appears asking the
password for the administrator I created. After type in then comes back w
error message;

"logon failure;the user has not been grated the requested logon type at this
computer"

With the suggested cure for this below,
http://www.jimmah.com/vista/Administration/locked_out_of_admin.aspx

Option1 didn't work.

I have Vista Home Premium preinstalled by manufacture. I am getting a
recovery Discs (since PC didn't come with it) .
Does Option 2 or 3 work with the Factory Recovery Discs?

I greately appreciate any advice to this matter.

Unfortunately the factory recovery disk will not work since it is used to
set the PC back to the same state it was in when you purchased the PC. What
you need is a Vista Installation Disk. You can pressure the Vendor where you
bought the PC for this disk, or if you have access to any Vista installation
disk, OEM or retail?

Thank you for your responce.

If I cannot get Vista Installation Disk, I use the factory recovery disk to
set the PC back to the same condition I purchased the PC, then this problem
should be resolved, too, shoudn't it? (-"-;) I know I have to start over
everything I did to this PC.

I guess either I get the Vista installation disk or use the recovery disk
are the only options left. Or is there any other choice?

Thanks,

Bougie

Bougie

That's the only options you have at this point.

What you want to do this time, after you use the recovery disk and get all
of your programs installed, is use the built-in Complete PC Backup program
to make an image of the hard drive. If you have problems again, you can
simply use this backup to recover.

Ronnie,

Thank you again for your quick answer.

I tried geting OEM Vista Installation Disks from Sony(which is my PC maker),
but my request was simply denied and somehow I was suggested to go to
different PC maker or MS for it!

So after i receive the recovery disks, i will format and reset my PC. Thank
you again for your tip for making the BU disck. I am going to be more
careful to make any change in user accounts next time.

In Vista, it is normal for the administrator account to be hidden.

You can enable it by opening an admin command prompt (right-click, run
as administrator), and typing:

net user administrator /active:yes

and pressing enter.

You may be able to get to the user accounts control panel from the
administrator account.

It sounds like you have a pretty serious problem, though. From what I
can tell, both your user accounts ARE administrators, but for some other
reason, you cannot get to the user accounts control panel.
