RE: ADMIN TOOLS, SERVICES (LOCAL)
Does anyone here know what specific services (local) are
required by Microsoft to run XP home edition? As a result
of downloading off the internet, I believe I have acquired
some unnecessary services; these auto alert-type services
are running (started) and that's permitting pop ups to be
displayed. I've already disabled the messenger service
and am still fighting the problem. Also, I made sure the
firewall is enabled via Network Connections. Any help
would be much appreciated.

The unnecessary services you have acquired are viruses and spyware.
Please post under just one name rather than several dozen so that you can
receive more accurate help.

Your system has so many problems that a reinstall would make sense

bum advice. get copies of AdAware and Spybot and update
them to the latest definition files. then run them and
quarantine any programs they find. once you know you can
safely delete them, do so. this procedure should be run
every couple of days.

use Norton Live Update and also Ad-aware. I'm not sure that that "messenger" service is what you THINK it is
