It is bad practice to use the built-in Administrator account for daily
work. You should use the account created by your son. You can copy all
your original data and settings to the new account. You will need a
third user account from which to work, so go to Control Panel>User
Accounts and create an extra user account.

HOW TO Create and Configure User Accounts in Windows XP -

Log into the new extra user account and follow these instructions to
copy your original account to the one your son made you:

Copy a User Account - http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=811151

After you have your data and settings copied and your account the way
you want, you can then set Windows to automatically log into this
account (go directly to your Desktop):

Have your son fix it?

Operating System version and Patch level?
(Details - without them - one of the two below may help - who knows which?)

CTRL+ALT+DEL twice at the Welcome Screen, type in 'administrator" as the
user and whatever that password (if any - if not - leave blank) was. Look
through the usr accounts - which was your 'old one'? (start button -->
run --> control userpasswords2)

Boot into safe mode and logon as 'administrator' (password may be blank) and
look at the user accounts there - which one is your 'old one'? (start
button --> run --> control userpasswords2)

Then you can setup an automatic logon - if the account wasn't somehow
administrator and you have Windows XP Home edition.

easier way to get rid of problem. remove your sons account. He will have
access to all your files but if you want windows just to boot up without
having to enter passwords or anything else go to: Start/Control Panel/User
Accounts locate his account and delete it. Click on your account and make
sure that you are set as the administrator by going to change my account
type. if you dont want to have to enter a password click to remove password.
You are done. Just that easy.
