administrating in XP?

Hi,

I have windows xp professional (2002, service pack 3) and the only account
on here is my own, which is computer administrator.

But a couple of times recently I've been prompted to log in as a power user
or administrator and my username/password have been denied as incorrect.
This generally happens in the Run As dialogue box, which gives the option of
logging in as user or administrator...if i log in as user I don't have the
clearance to do anything, and if I log in as administrator, I get the error
message...any advice?

I tried installing SubInACL to fix the problem, but cannot run it...as I
have to log in as administrator to do it!

That would indicate that you aren't using an Admin account, or that the
profile has been damaged.

Log out, and log in with the Administrator account. Press
control+alt+delete at the Welcome screen to get the login; try just pressing
enter for the password. Once in, check the permissions on your user
account and fix them as required.
