what is this directory used for???

Is it a directory???

It's not a "directory" normally - it is a share pointing to your WINDOWS
directory.

File sharing.

Admin$ is special shared folder.

A hidden share is identified by a dollar sign ($) at the end of the share
name.

The system root folder (%SYSTEMROOT%) is shared as ADMIN$.

%SYSTEMROOT% = C:\WINDOWS or C:\WINNT or whatever drive.
