Recently replaced a motherboard for a friend. The motherboard I replaced it
with was NOT an identical model, but was close. Did a repair on the Windows
XP Home installation and everything was working as it should have been.
Friend just brought the PC back for me to look at regarding a problem with
the RAS service not starting. This was cured by re-applying SP2. During this
fix however, when I attempted to log on as ADMINISTRATOR it resulted in a
dialog window popping up telling me I could not log on due to a restrictin
in place. Seeing as how I did the rebuild of the PC and repair of the OS, I
was kind of curious as to how and what this dialog box meant. My friend
assured me, and I do believe him, that he made no changes other than
creating a user account. The user account he has is a member of the
ADMINISTRATOR group, but is NOT the ADMINISTRATOR acount.
While he has his PC back and is happy with it's operation the error I
experienced trying to log on as ADMINISTRATOR has left me scratching the
grey matter.
Any ideas?
TIA
