Address resolution or redirection

J

Jeff Hahn

When I type in certain websites in the address bar, I get
redirected to another totally unrelated site. It looks
like I have been infected with a "plug-in", extension or
executable on my machine that is "listening" in on the
address bar and when certain popular addresses are typed
in (such as yahoo.com, cnn.com, microsoft.com), the code
redirects to an undesirable site.

I have removed some files created in the time frame that
the intrusion occurred, but have not gotten them all.

Any help would be appreciated.

If you suspect that your Browser and/or machine has been hijacked... read on.

Removal Tool, your choice, novice users, Lavasoft's Ad-aware,
http://ftp.pcworld.com/pub/new/privacy___security/aaw6181.exe
Lavasoft/Ad-aware home: http://www.lavasoftusa.com
Mirror site: http://www.lavasoft.de/

Advanced users, SpyBot Search & Destroy,
http://studserver.uni-dortmund.de/~su1669/spybotsd12.exe

SpyBot home: http://security.kolla.de/
SpyBot How-To: http://www.tomcoyote.org/SPYBOT/

Install either but both are not necessary, reboot, read FAQ and overview, use
online update feature to obtain the latest reference files, scan for Spyware
much like you would with your pre-installed anti-virus scanner.
Rid your machine of unwanted Spyware pests.
