Address field in Contacts

When I open a contact, the address is not displayed unless I click the
Business address button at which point the Check Addresses Dialogue box
opens. When I click OK, the address then appears on the contact page.

Is the "This is the mailing address" box checked for the business address?
If not, does checking that box make a difference?
