Address Book won't show Contacts

After transfering my personal folder with Easy Transfer. I have all my
contacts, but they will not display in the Address Book.

I have tried resetting the Properties of the Contacts folders to show the
folder as an address book, but the folder name and check box are greyed-out.

I have tried to remove the Outlook Address Book using the Tools>Accounting
Settings>Address Books to simply start over, but the Remove option is
greyed-out.

I have tried to delete the entire Outlook.pst file (making a back-up copy),
but the new file created by Outlook has the same problem.

I have tried to repairing Microsoft Office with no effect.

I am at my wits end! Anybody else have this problem, or have any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

Steve M

PS - I am running a Dell Insprion 1520 with Vista business and Office for
Small Business 2007

The Easy transfer Wizard doesn't handle Outlook well.

With Outlook 2007, you'll need to create a new mail profile so that you can
add the Outlook Address Book service to it. Then you'll be able to check
the box you mention.

Thanks for this; I thought it was the solution, but the method
described does not work at all for Vista and Outlook 2007. Any other
methods for this combination?

Sure it does, if you start with a new mail profile.

Can you add the details about how to
1. "create a new mail profile", and
2. the steps to "add the OAB servict to it"?

I have installed OL 2007 on Vista Ultimate with all updates and cannot get
the Contacts folder added to the address book. I have deleted the e-mail
account and created from scratch as suggested. When I go to the address book
tab the Outlook Address Book (type MAPI) appears and I cannot remove it nor
add another.

Whe I try to change the properties of the Contacts folder to show it as an
address book, the option is not selectable.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

You must start with a new mail profile. Outlook 2007 is broken in such a
way that you cannot remove the OAB service to re-add it.

That took care of the problem. I was able to import the calendar, contact,
and e-mail items into the new set of folders. Does not look like I lost
anything.

Thanks.

You were lucky. Importing is never the correct way to transfer Outlook data.
You will always lose something. Perhaps you just didn't need what you lost.

NEVER import from a PST. Simply reuse the existing PST or you may corrupt
the mail profile again.
