Address Book Problem

Jack Gillis

I am having the following problem using the Address Book of OE6 running
under XP Home.

Using Tools/Address Book/Tools/Action/Send Mail, I get the following
message box entitled 'Address Book Main Identity.'

"The Address Book could not locate an email client that it could
invoke. The Address Book uses the Simple MAPI Protocol to send
email. If your client provides an option to let is handle Simple MAPI
calls, please turn on this option."

I can find no such option in any of the Options of OE6. Anyway, I
thought that if OE was the default it was also the default Simple MAPI
client.

OE6 is the default mail client. (Thanks to an old post by Doug Knox, I
got it that way by running msimn.exe /reg.)

I also notice that when using the Send To feature of Word, it wants to
wind up sending the document to Outlook, not Outlook Express. I had
Outlook 97 installed for a while but removed it several months ago
because I found it of no use. Could it be that there lies the problem?

Thank you very much.

Hi, Jack -

You will probably get a faster and more expert answer if you post this to an
Outlook Express news group.

A good website for information on OE is:

Thanks again, PA Bear and for your response over in the Outlook Express
group

No joy after all that.

As I said over there, the problem appears associated with something to
do with Outlook be not completely uninstalled months ago. Anyway, for
certain, OE is fully registered as the default client.

Oh well, I've got enough to worry about right now and will put off any
further work for a while.

Posting about a WinXP/OE6 problem in
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.Win98.internet.outlookexpress
makes no sense whatsover, not to mention the wasted effort of those trying
to assist you who monitor many newsgroups.

For future reference, /the/ WinXP/OE6 newsgroup is

Good luck.
