Address book problem - repost

GHM

Still seeking help on this problem which I posted on this
board last week. If nobody can help maybe they can direct
me to a source that might have the answer. I have tried
all the usual approaches but it looks like I might have to
go into the registry.

Once again:

Just switched from Outlook Express to Outlook 2003. When I
click on Address Book I get the message "No entries in
this address book." When I follow the instructions for
transfering Contacts to Address Book I finally get this
message: "This account or directory type already exists &
cannot be used twice."

How can I get Contacts into Address Book so I can use auto
address.

Thank you

GHM

What instructions did you follow?
How did you migrate your data when you switched programs?
What directories and address books are configured in your profile?
Do your Contacts appear correctly in your Contacts Folder and do they have
valid email addresses?

I first went through Contacts by opening properties and
clicking on "show this folder in address book." Didn't
work. Then I went through Tools and selected email
accounts. When I finished clicking through I got the
message "The account or directory already exists and
cannot be specified twice." This response is for both
personal and outlook address book, neither of which is
functioning. When I open the address book I get this
message:"No entries in this address book."

I switched from Win98 and Outlook Express by simply
downloading from CD and my former address book entries
showed up in contacts by not the address book.

Thanks,

GHM

All sounds normal.
You should not have a Personal Address Book.
The Outlook Address Book is already present. That is why you can't add it.
The Outlook Address Book should appear empty. You should select your
Contacts Folder in the Show Names From: dropdown to see your Contacts listed
in the Address Book.

Russ, Thanks for your help.

In the final analysis, the problem is really that I can't
use Auto Complete when addressing my email. I have this
option selected in Advance email options but it still
doesn't work. I assume that this is because there are no
names in my address book but even specifying the contacts
list in "Show Names From" Auto Complete does not work when
addressing new email.

Autocomplete has nothing to do with your Contacts Data or address book. It
uses a cache of names that you will populate as you send messages. You'll
see it working once you've built up your cache.
