address book export/import

Dan Calic

Hi,
My mom [senior citizen] has been using Win 95/Netscape/Messenger for the
past few years.

She now has a new system with Win XP Home/IE/Outlook Express.

Would someone be kind enough to provide a step by step on how to export her
Messenger address book and import it into Outlook Express?

Your effort would be most appreciated.

Windows Messenger and MSN Messenger are similar but separate programs.
Windows Messenger ships with Windows XP. MSN Messenger is a separate
downloadable program.
-- Users with Windows Messenger can converse with MSN Messenger users.

-- Both messaging programs can be installed on the same XP machine. You
cannot be signed in with the same .NET passport on both programs at the
same time though.

I've never used MSN Messenger but if you can find directions in the Help
file for exporting the contact list from that program, it's very
possible that Windows Messenger will allow you to import them.

Directions from the Windows Messenger program for importing a contacts
list:

To add contacts from a saved file:

On the File menu, click Import Contacts from a Saved File.
The contacts in this file who are not already in your list will be added
to it. None of the contacts in your list will be lost.

Notes
If the file you are importing contains contacts associated with a
service to which you are not connected at the time, those contacts will
not be added to your list. For example, if you are not connected to .NET
Messenger Service, .NET Messenger Service contacts in the list you are
trying to import will not be added to your list.

Contacts who were blocked when you saved the list will still be blocked
when the list is imported (if they are new to the existing list).

this messaging program):

Ok. Saw the slashes between Win95/Netscape/Messenger and thought
Netscape referred to her browser and not messaging program. Have you
checked the Netscape site for directions yet?
