Hallo,

Happy New Year!

I use Windows 2000/IE v 5.5 sp2.
After I enter an URL in the explorer address bar without http:/ for
instance, 'www.yahoo.com', the explorer starts to look for a file called
www.yahoo.com on my computer.
Only after I added http:// the explorer logo appears before www and it
starts looking for the site. Should I change something in the registry?

Thanx, John

Check the below Registry entries vs. yours:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\URL\DefaultPre
fix]
Default="http://"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\URL\Prefixes]
"ftp"="ftp://"
"gopher"="gopher://"
"home"="http://"
"mosaic"="http://"
"www"="http://"
