I am running Inernet Explorer 6 SP1 on Windows XP Pro.
Recently I have had a very peculiar problem. I will type
an address into the address box and hit enter. The
browser will lock up. If this same address is on a
shortcut on the current web page or in my "Favorites", it
works just fine. Sometimes opening a new browser and
entering the web address again works, sometimes it locks
up as well. There are no messages in the system or
application logs. The only recent changes I've made to
the system have been to add 512 MB of RAM (now up to 768
MB total) and installing Micro Trend's anti virus
software (required by my company). It seemed to start
affecting the PC after the new RAM was installed, but
that doesn't make much sense to me. My current work
around is to have Google as my home page and use it to
search for a link to the page I want, and then click on
the shortcut. That avoids me having to use the address
bar. I don't like this solution. Any help out there?
P.S. - I use Spybot Search and Destroy on a regular basis.
