Hi,

I activated the address bar on the taskbar so i could
open internet explorer windows up from there, but when i
type in a website address a new window opens but the site
does not load. the 1st time i tried it i got a pop up
messege from the program telling me it couldn't make the
connection (i paraphrase) it has not shown the messege
since but still does not load the site. in the address
bar on the ie window it shows a file path in the system
32 folder. i tried it on a friends computer and it worked
fine, but mines doesn't seem to want to play along! i
have service pack 2 installed, he does not.

thanks for your assistance

Exactly:
1. what did you type in the address bar on the taskbar?
2. what was the resulting error message?
3. what was the file path in the system 32 folder?

Firstly thanks for the quick reply. in answer to your
questions, i initially typed www.google.com and the error
messege appeared

"there was a problem sending the command to the program"

the ie window remains blank, including the address bar on
it. when i press stop this is the file path:

"res://C:\WINDOWS\system32\shdoclc.dll/navcancl.htm"

if i add http:// to the website address in the address
bar on the windows taskbar, the error messege pop up does
not occur, but when i press stop on the browser, the file
path is exactly the same. i can navigate using the
address bar on the task bar through my own files on my
hard disk. also, when i activate the links tool bar on
the taskbar, it works fine. it opens a new window and
loads the site i choose.

thanks again for your assistance
