Address Bar---cannot search!!

Whenever I type a word in the ADDRESS BAR..........for
example.......CATS.........it does not go to likely sites
that have info requested from addresS bar!...an error page
that asks you to hit refresh or detect network settings
appears...I do what it asks..yet to no avail!!..how do I
enable my system to do so..without having to click the
SEARCH ICON..........I have Windows 2000 Professional...THX
 
Go to Tools, Internet Options, Advanced, Scroll down to "Search from the
Address Bar" and change the setting.
