Hi All,

I am running W2K domain structure and I created an
additional DC which is also my SQL server. Now this server
does not open any of the AD things. When I try to open
ADUC it says naming information cannot be located because
the server is not operational. After we say OK to this
message it opens the ADUC bit just the snap in.It says
Active Directory for users and computers. When i right
click thatand go into operation master all I can see
written there is error.I tried creating another
additional DC servers but same problem, only the main DC
and the Exchange server DC works fine and none others.I
really need help here!!!

Hello Shariq have you verified that your DNS working, and TCP/IP DNS
Settings are correct on the additional domain controller and pointing to the
server holding the DNS zone for your Active Directory Domain.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for your reply.Yes I have verified that in my
network properties I have given the right DNS address.I
cannot open the DNS from the administrative tools to
check which DNS zone is in there coz of the same error I
explained earlier.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Chris,

When I try to type dns on my command prompt it comes back
with:

server:hsb1.habibsons.com
Adress: the servers ip address here

hsb1.habibsons.com cant't find dns:Non-existent domain

!!!

Something seems to be wrong with DNS, where is the AD Zone located, on the
first promoted DC?

Also Chris,

when i open DNS from the administrative tools I can see
my correct DNS server(hsb1.habibsons.com),and when I
right click on it and then go to properties and then
monitoring and I do a simple test it says Failed on name
resolution but when a test on the recursive query on
other dns server it pass!

Can you find any records in the zone for your additional domain controller?

TCP/IP DNS Settings on the additional domain controller only points to the
first ones IP?

S

Shariq

Yes Chris it only points to the first ones IP,and on the
first ones DNS i can see the entry for the second one in
the forward as well as the reverse lookup zone.

Are the first DCs TCP/IP DNS Settings pointing to it self?

Are there more than one Network Interface on the First DC with DNS?
