adding USB printer to XP- NO virtual USB port??

In the past when I have added a USB printer to XP the
plug and play system installed the printer and setup a
virtual USB printer port called USB001. When I just
tried to install a HP 970Cxi printer the installation
fails at an invalid port error and the USB001 port is
never created.

HELP!! Please reply to the email address above if
possible.

In case any other pore bastard has this happen. I found
that two files control USB printing. One of the two
files apparently was corrupt on the problem PC. Even
though no event log or other errors were apparent.

USBPRINT.sys and USBMON.DLL

Once I copied replacements to the problem system and
rebooted the USB001 port did appear when a USB printer
was plugged in.
