Hi,

I just bought and started a great new PC for my family and have run into
some trouble:

At startup, I was asked who would be using the computer, so I set up an
account for my self and my wife (as "administrators") and an account for each
of my kids ("limited"). I've discovered that i can't install or delete
things from the kids' screens now - i.e. I can't use the "desktop cleanup
wizard" to remove all of the "free-trial" icons that came with my computer on
the desktop. If I try to delete an icon from the kids' screen - I get a
message like, You do not have administrative priveleges to delete this item -
contact your system administrator. Another example is, how do I install a
game for them? I get the same message.

Thanks for any help!

Hi

Temporary put the kid's account in the Administrators group, do
your software cleanup/install (be sure to start and run all
applications at least once).

Then remove the account from the Administrators and cross your
fingers and hope that the apps still run fine...

Do it from your own admin level account. That should give you access to
the
C:\Documents and Settings\kidname\ folder
and in that to the Desktop one, where you can delete the unwanted icons,
and to Programs which corresponds to those Programs shortcuts not
installed for All Users, but just for that account

If you install a program from your account, a decent installer *ought*
to ask if it is wanted just for this user or for all. If it does not,
and only puts it is the \yourname\Programs, then copy the shortcut
across to the kids one
