If I add a second drive, with programs already installed on it, how do
I get the programs on it to be added to the program list? Ever since
windows 3.1 I have been stugling to figure out how to get access to
programs already installed on a drive that is then added to another
computer. The only thing I have been able to figure out is the program
has to be installed while it is attached to the computer you want to
use the program with or else windows can not add it to the program list
or recognize it as even existing as a usable program.

Thus untill now when I add a drive that already has programs installed
on it I have been uninstalling and reinstalling. However this time I
have to figure this out. It is just to much of a headach to have to
always reinstall already installed programs on a drive that is being
added to another system.

Most programs need to be added to the registry and that's why you need
to reinstall them properly. It's also used somewhat as a protection
scheme against pirated software.

But you can always right-click a program's executable and click Send To,
Desktop (Create a shortcut). Simpler installs might work fine like
this. If the shortcut works from the Desktop, drag it to the Start
Menu. Once you've started it from the Start Menu, is might be added to
the list.

If the program uses any of it's own DLLS or configuration information, you
need to install in order for the registry to be updated with registered DLLS
and registry support information.

Thanks I was on that path but the DLL's are a problem. I see this just
sucks and I have to start fresh.
