Yes, I have a Office 97 cd. It is an OEM that came with my old computer . On the CD it says the program is designed for Windows NTand Windows 95. I really only want the Publisher98 part of the Office Suite, can I use just the Publisher CD and install Publisher only?? My new computer is running great, no problems and I don't want to make a mess for myself. I used Publisher a lot tho and can kick myself for not getting XP Professional. If I can get the 98 Version installed I can purchase a 2003 upgrade version much cheaper than a full version of Publisher. [I think] Thanks for your help

Even though Office 97 (and Office 2000 for that matter) came out before
Windows XP, all Office versions from 97 and higher can be installed on
Windows and is fully compatible. I don't think Office 95 will work on XP.

I installed Office Pro 97 on my Windows XP Home Edition
system. It works fine.

Thank you very much for that information. I really appreciate it. I am
going to try the install.

You don't have to install the old version of Publisher in order to install
from the Upgrade CD. Run setup for the Upgrade version, and when it asks
for proof of Upgrade eligibility swap the Upgrade CD for the old version CD,
and give the path to that CD. When Upgrade eligibility has been
established, swap back to Upgrade CD and continue the install.

OEM software is licensed to be installed on only one
computer, the computer you first installed it on. If it is
OEM provided by a company such as Compaq, it may not work to
do an upgrade.

I can't speak for all components of Office 95, but I ran both
Word 95 and Excel 95 here on Windows XP without problems until
just a few months ago.

I have components from three versions of MS Office on my system, starting
with Bookshelf from Office 95 and all run fine. I seem to remember reading
that there are some problems with Outlook from the earlier versions of
Office. If you don't use Outlook, then you should be OK.

Greetings --

While Office 97 does work just fine on WinXP, you cannot use your
OEM Office license from another computer.

An OEM Office version must be sold with a PC and is _permanently_
bound to that first PC on which it's installed. An OEM license, once
installed, is not legally transferable to another computer under _any_
circumstances. You can remove or replace it, if you like, but you
cannot ever reuse it on a different computer.

Lest anyone be confused by the sentence above, I worded it very
poorly. What I meant to say was, until just a few months ago I
ran both Word 95 and Excel 95 here on Windows XP without
problems.

The difference in word order completely changes the meaning of
the sentence. The way I wrote it originally makes it sound like I
did have problems starting a few months ago.
