adding narration to Powerpoint

I am required to do a Powerpoint presentation with narration as an assignment
for an online class I'm taking. My sound card is the Creative Soundblaster
Platinum 5.1, and my microphone is connected to the jack in the sound card.
I know that the microphone is working properly because I have tried recording
my voice using the recording software that came with the sound card.
However, when I try to check the sound level before recording narration in
Powerpoint, I get an error message that says that Powerpoint is not receiving
sound from the microphone. I have already contacted Creative support and was
told that it was probably a setting in Powerpoint and I needed to contact
someone with Microsoft. I am running Powerpoint 2000.

Your better off using the software that came with your SoundBlaster sound card.
The sound quality when using PowerPoint leaves a lot to be desired. I have
basically the same card, and use the Wave Studio software that came with my
SoundBlaster card.

You would make all your narrations using your SoundBlaster Software, saving them
as wav files, then insert them into PowerPoint wherever you needed them.

Okay. How do I do that?
