Microphone not recognized when recording narrations in PowerPoint

When I try to record narrations to a PowerPoint presentation my USB
microphone is not recognized. If I only want to record my voice on 1 slide
at a time my microphone is recognized by sound recorder and it works fine.
Tried both suggestions given by microphone to no avail. Help

Not sure whether you're still monitoring your post - but I have struck the
same problem.
Found the solution somewhere on the www:
http://www.its2.uidaho.edu/cti/res/tuts/audio/PowerPoint_Audio.htm
(see step 7 - by the way this is an excellent set of instructions).
It seems that Powerpoint (2003) always comes up with the "powerpoint is not
receiving sound from the microphone....etc" with USB mikes. I think
powerpoint
on macs (2002?) has a button to select the sound source, but 2003 only looks
at
the microphone input in the sound card. The good news is that it records
the
narration anyway (provided your USB mike is working) - you just don't have
the option
to set the level.

Does anyone know if this issue has been addressed in PP2007? And can you
record
as MP3 rather than wav?
cheers
Bill
