Adding line numbers in PP2007

I have just spent 30 minutes trying to figure out how to do something that
in PP2007 was easy.

I just want to add page numbers to a pre-existing slide show.

In the past, I recall, one used the master slide to do this.

But, I can't find a way to actually apply the master slide.

I've read the help (which talks about saving the master slide to disk),
googled, etc.

Any help here?

Page Numbers?
On the ribbon, click Insert tab.
Under text section, select Slide Number.
Put a checkmark on Slide Number.
Click Apply to All.
