Adding Info to the Status Bar

I don't know if this is even possible. I have done several searches both in
these forums and in google... and found nothing. Is it possiblt to add
information (other than control descriptions) to the status bar? I have a
continuous form that keeps track of the quality control work being done an
varied products. There is a status field showing if the quality control has
begun, is in progress or is finished. I would like to show on the status bar
at the bottom of the window how many total records there are in the view as
well as how many of them are complete. Any help is appreciated.
