adding favorites to all users

I have certain favorites that I would like all users who log onto a computer
to see. I have copied thes favorites into the all users folder. But, the
favorites do not show up when users open Internet Explorer. What am I doing
wrong here?

I personally have not tried this, but...

You might consider copying them to the Default User. That way, when a new
user logs on the first time, hopefully, they will become part of the new
profile.

Hi Marvin,

This is because Internet Explorer does not read the All Users\Favorites location at
all. To establish a commn favorites folder, you may edit the "Favorites" shell folder path in the registry under each user account in the system. Anyway, "personal favorites + common favorites" setup is not possible in Windows XP.

Well , this helps when people logon for the first time but, does not help for
users who have already logged on. Isn't "all users" supposed to apply to "ALL
USERS" ?

Marvin,

Here's one way (says for XP Pro too):

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/158787

Here's a possible different way:

Adding them th the ALL USERS Favorites folder will only copy them when a new
user is created

One way around it is to go:

START
RUN
Type 'gpedit.msc' & click OK

Expand 'User Configuration'
Expand 'Windows Settings'
Expand 'Internet Explorer Maintenance'
Highlight 'URL'
Double-click 'Favorites and Links' in the right pane
Now add the URL(S) you wish.

Please be careful not to delete your existing URLS first. So, BACK THEM UP

adding favorites to all users doesn't apply to "all users"?

Yes. That's the case in Windows XP. Not sure about other Operating Systems though.

So , adding favorites to all users doesn't apply to "all users"?

Well, the gpedit seems to work for all users. The common favorites folder
approach only seems to work for the user who is logged on when the change is
made.
