Adding DDR Memory

W

WGWells

I recently tried to add an additional stick of 256/266
DDR Ram to my system but when I do XP won't load. The
start-up keeps restarting.

Even when I try to start in Safe Mode.

I got once to an error message saying there was an error
detected in my windows/sys32 file which I assume is the
startup info which previously would have shown 256 Ram
and not 512 with the new DDR Ram.

Anyone else have any problems and if so how dod you fix.

Thanks

You might want to switch the two DDR modules just for the
hell of it. Also, some motherboards have strange orders in
which you have to place the memory chips. You might want
to look up your motherboard on the web to see if there is
anything that might help. Put the new module just by
itself and see what happens. If you get anywhere, it means
that the new chip might not be faulty. Try putting both
chips in and looking in your bios. Sorry I can't help any
more than that.

Greetings --

It's absolutely essential that any new RAM module be compatible
with both the motherboard and any other RAM module(s) in the system.
Additionally, there are sometimes jumper switches on older
motherboards that need to be reset for the new RAM configuration.
Consult your motherboard's manual.

Hello

remove the new memory that you add and try to reboot your pc
if all works fine, then it's your new memory. Also make sure that
the new memory you purcahse is the same speed as the one that
you have installed.
