adding database user in BCM 2007

Remote computer will not connect. Trying to connect my desktop with my
laptop. Have followed BCM instructions completely. Have changed user
names, computer names, passwords - all with no success. Have reinstalled
BCM. Am continually told that I have not been granted access or that the
password is incorrect.

Am suspicious the problem relates to both computers being set up under the
same user name. Have tried changing the logon name for the remote computer
but the error messages always refer to the original user logon name which
remains on the remote computer as the "registered computer user" name which
apparently cannot be changed. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Are you using XP Home on one or both of these PC's? That won't work... I
would also try to make both users Administrators to make sure permissions
are OK.

XP Pro is on both. I am sole administrator on both machines. The
instructions are so simple. I have read and reread and tried and retried.
No luck. Can't imagine what I'm doing wrong.

Let's remove BCM from the picture to narrow in on the problem.

You must have exactly the same login and password on both machines.

I assume you have BCM working on the desktop and a database, and that
you have successfully run the sharing wizard to share your database.

Try this from a command prompt window:
OSQL -E -S nameofdesktoppc\MSSMLBIZ,5356 -d MSSmallBusiness

If that doesn't succeed, then the error may indicate what the problem
is.

If it works, you will get a prompt. Type "exit" to leave osql.

By login, I mean the Windows login.

For example, your Windows login should "Blake", with the same
password, on both machines.

I don't understand what you mean by "set up stops". Do you mean
connecting BCM on the laptop, to the database on the desktop?

If that happened on the laptop, then you have permission to access the
database on the desktop.

I don't know what "local" means in context. You need to to run the
sharing wizard in BCM on the desktop, then connect BCM on the laptop
to the shared database on the desktop.
