Adding batch comments (EXIF, IPTC) to jpegs (jpg, jpgs)

Is there any good software to add EXIF or IPTC comments (some sort of
batch mode would be good) to jpegs (jpg, jpgs)?

Thanks

You want to add the same comment to multiple images?
In IrfanView, open the Thumbnail viewer, select multiple images by any
method you wish, then click "File | Jpg Lossless Operations | Set
Comment" (or Set IPTC Data). The same comment will be added to each.

Another alternative is this little command-line program:

Last, one comment: if your intention is to add copyright or other
legal identifying information to an image you own, do a web search on
"steganography" freeware. You may want to use this as well.

Ideally I want to be able to add different comments to each jpg, but do
it in a way which minimises keystrokes, for example, do something like
hit F5 and it takes me to the next EXIF comment field on the next jpg in
the directory. Then for example, I hit another key and it adds a
customisable string like someone's name. So if similar people are in
each photo I can just hit he shortcut key for each name and it inserts
the full name into the field.

It would be good if when you were using a program like irfanview, it
displayed a set field at the bottom that you could quickly add comments
in while going through your photos.

Pixvue, http://www.pixvue.com/, is what you are looking for.
It integrates with windows file explorer.
Just navigate to the folder containing your pictures, select the
picturefiles, right click.
In the right click menu are menuoptions to add metadata (Keywords, captions
etc,) to the picturefiles.
You can copy metadata from one file to another and use templates for easy
and fast adding of data to multiple files.
Also Pixvue displays the picture itself.
