Adding a sound to animation

I have a newest version of power point and want to add sound files to my animation. In help, it tells me to go to Custom Animation task pane and then click an arrow on the selected item in Custom Animation list, and then click options.......except I have no Custom Animation list where there is and effect options button?
I can get sounds applied to the entire slide through slide transitions, but want to apply sound to specific texts or objects on my slides. Do I have to download this option somewhere??? TIA

Never mind.. Found it after right clicking on the object needing sound applied to the animation in the task pane. Microsoft needs to update their help topics to current versions.

First you have to assign an animation to an object. Select the object that
has an animation assigned to it. Then right click it and select Custom
Animation. In the list of object, your object will be highlighted. Click
on the arrowhead to the right. From the drop down menu select "Effect
Options" and on the Effect tab you'll see where you can add enhancements,
including a sound file. Does that do it for you?

If you have the latest version (PowerPoint 2003) under "Add a sound to an
animation " the Help File says:

The text or object must already have an animation applied to it before you
can
complete this process.

1.. On the slide, select the text or object you want to add an additional
effect to.
2.. On the Slide Show menu, click Custom Animation.
3.. In the Custom Animation task pane, click the arrow on the selected
item in the Custom Animation list, and then click
Effect Options.
4.. On the Effect tab, under Enhancements, click the arrow in the Sound
list, and do one of the following:
a.. If you want to add a sound from the list, click an option.
b.. If you want to add a sound from a file, click Other sound, and then
navigate to the file.

I think you just must have read it quickly and missed the key words.
