Adding a Second Hard Drive

I'm adding a second parallel ATA hard drive on my system and the
instructions state that it should be on the slave connector (grey) of the
primary ATA cable, the same cable that my boot drive C: is on. The only open
connector I have is on the secondary cable and the middle connector, the
gray connector.

I would have to rearange my drives so that is will end up on the slave
connector of the primary cable.

The question is why must it be on the slave connector of the primary cable?
Why wouldn't it be satisfactory on the slave connector of the secondary ATA
interface cable?

Those dumbed-down instructions are for a typical new user with only
their original HD and maybe a CD/DVD.

Put it anywhere.Just make sure you jumper it correctly - Only Drive,
Master, Slave, Cable Select.

Do what you want. It will be Ok and is a perfectly normal thing to do.
