Adding a Printer

We are using Server2003, SP1 with MS DNS. I am trying to figure out how to
add al our HP printers that have static IP address. Is there a way to have
the printers do a dynamic update to DNS or ?? How do I get the printers
into DNS so that I can manage them by name, not IP address?

You'll have to enter them manually, or script the entries if you have them
in a spreadsheet. If not, you can enter them one at a time in the snap-in,
or maybe convert the zone to a standard primary, script the entries into the
zone file, then convert it back to AD Integrated. Wait a sec......

Wow, I actuall have a jscript that reads a csv file exported from the DNS
snap-in, and puts the records into zone file format. That's not exactly what
you're doing, but it might be a place to start. It depends on how familiar
you are with Excel and jscript, and how many printers you have. Reply to my
email if you want copies. The scripts are kinda long (too long to post here)
because I start with a pre-written "swiss army knife" type application
skeleton then just modify the parts I need to do the job at hand. I have one
script that does a forward zone and another that does a reverse.
