adding 8GB to Windows 2000 Server

Do I need to upgrade or reload from scratch Win 2K
advanced server from Win2K if I add more than 8GB memory
for it to be recognized.

Hi,

By default Windows 2000 is limited to 4 GB.
In Intel Architecture, if you want to use more that 4 GB you should set the
option "/pae" in the boot.ini as describe in the following article:
268363 Intel Physical Addressing Extensions (PAE) in Windows 2000
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=268363

Please note that this only works for Datacenter and Advanced Server Edition.
With PAE enabled you can use:
8 GB for W2k Adv srv Edition
32 GB for W2k Datacenter Edition
