Add Win2K DC to NT4 DC

I'm currently in the process of adding a new server to our network. Our old
server is running NT 4 SP6A as a PDC ( no dns or wins). When I try to add
the new WIN2K server as a DC I get an error that says " The domain "DOMAIN"
is not an Active Directory domain or an Active Directory domain could not be
contacted." I've installed DNS on the new WIN2K server and pointed the NT4
server PDC to it. Should I add an entry in DNS for the old server. Such as
oldserver.domain. Any help appreciated.

You will need to upgrade your NT4 domain controller to Win2k and AD, before
you can add a Win2k DC
Your NT4 PDC does not know how to create SRV records.

Hi Mark-

You cannot make a W2K server act as a DC in an NT4 domain without converting
that domain into an AD Domain. You will have to promote your NT4 PDC to W2K
at which point you can then add additional W2K DC's. If you keep the domain
in Mixed Mode you can retain your NT4 BDC's as well. If you don't want to
promote your NT4 PDC then you must create an entirely new AD domain with
your W2K Server and then that get's you into doing a migration.... different
story.
