Add to F8 options?

RScotti

Hi,
I now have the OEM version of Vista Ultimate System builder edition because I had to do a clean install to try to fix
System Restore.
I originally had the OEM version that was installed from a server from Systemax, my PC maker which had the Recovery
Environment in the F8 options.
I would like to find a way to install the Recovery Environment that is on the DVD into my F8 options like the original.
Is there a way to do this?

Have a good day,

Hi RScotti---

There is a way to install Win RE onto your box, besides some custom methods
that are probably available to enterprises. This comes from the Win RE
Notes from MSFT:

http://blogs.msdn.com/winre/default.aspx

How to Install Win RE on the Hard Disk
http://blogs.msdn.com/winre/archive/2007/01/12/how-to-install-winre-on-the-hard-disk.aspx

There could be more than one way to do this. I never thought about adding
to F8 options or editing them before, but a thread came up the other day and
Darrell Gorter [MSFT] wrote this on a thread over on the Vista setup group
titled "Safe Mode Menu Edit"--I haven't tried it yet but I probably will
soon.

"Hello,
After mulling this over, there may be a different way around what you
wanting to prevent.
I still don't think there is a way to change the Advanced Startup Menu to
remove the Safe Mode options.
However there may be way to change what loads in the Safe Mode with
Networking option.
Please can we try this on the test machine first,, this should not be
considered a supported option and make these changes at your own risk.
Make a Restore Point before making any changes.
Had to put some disclaimers in because I don't what this all may affect:
This registry key and the subkeys control what loads when you boot into
Safe Mode with Networking
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SafeBoot\Network
You should be able to go down this list of subkeys and disable the network
services and Device classes.
This would prevent networking from running, so there would be there should
be no Internet access.
If the changes causes a Stop Error on reboot, Last Known Good may also
resolve this.

Thanks,
Darrell Gorter[MSFT]"

Hi Chad,
I been reading the link you gave me and I already have that 1.5 GB hidden partition installed and the files are there in
it.
The article is very confusing for me I know all I have to do is link my new install to the Win RE but don't know how?

One problem I see it doesn't seem to have a drive letter so I can't use the command:
SetAutoFailover.cmd /target x: /wim /nohide

I only have the Acronis evaluation copy so I can't make a drive letter.

The Disk Management also doesn't have that option for this drive. All other drives have it.

Also this command doesn't exist in my box:
C:\Windows\system32>setautofailover.cmd /?
'setautofailover.cmd' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

I also don't have this:
Windows AIK, /Windows PE Tools Command Prompt.

I think? All I have to do is find a way for my new install to see it:?
Any idea's
