I'm running Win2K SP4 Pro at the latest update level. When
I launch add-Remove Windows Components O/E and I/E are
checked I uncheck them and check Win Media to remove it.
The program runs and immediately ends. All that happenes
is that the I/E and O/E icons (shortcuts) are removed fron
the desktop and programs list and Win Media isn't removed.
What is the name of the Add -remove program so that I can
remove it manualy and repair? Or how do I repair Add -
Remove Win Components. Add - remove PROGRAMS works
correctly. Thanks.

There are some applications that come with Windows that simply cannot be
removed, because they are tied to the operating system in some way. Windows
Media Player is probably one of them, as that is used when you get those
preview videos in Windows Explorer when you select a video file, in a
default setup. If you're talking about the "set program access and
defaults" that was added with SP4, these are settings pretty much just take
away your shortcuts to those programs. The US government mandated this
nonsense. See here: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=327931
