Add/remove software tool shows many blank lines

R

Ralph P. Schorn

On a fresh installed Windows XP SP2 pro system (german) with
all patches, the add/remove software tool (appwiz.cpl)
shows a strange behaviour: In the middle of all installed
programmes a very large area with hundreds of blank
lines shows up.

This is not related to a certain software entry, as the
beginning of the blank section starts at different
positions depending on the sorting method (alphabetically
etc.). I have tried recommendations published in the
KB266668 article, see

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/266668/EN-US

but nothing helped. Any ideas?

Kind regards,
Ralph

Hi Ralph,

Do you have AutoCad installed? If that's the case, see this response from
MVP Wesley Vogel.

If that does not apply to your situation, then download my script below and
run it. Post the results here. This script lists all the negative icon
references present in the registry, and sends them to a log file.

Script
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/utils/ARPNegCheck.vbs
(Lists all negative icon references in Add/Remove)

The Old New Thing : Why does Add or Remove Programs show a large blank
space?:

Thanks, that did solve the problem. Together with

appwiz.cpl is now ok. I think Microsoft should update that code ...
