How to remove Currently installed Programs and updates?

I've removed some programs either through their de-install program or thru
the Remove/Install program window and I still see those programs listed.
Sometimes when I try to highlight them to de-install, i.e. Warcraft III. I
get an error window that says file C:\Windows\War3Unin.dat not found. Is
there an easy way to clean this screen up or do I have to go into the
registry to clean this up?
