It's unclear what you mean. Are you saying there is no reference at
all to the program you wish to remove, or, there is an entry but the
entry is blank?

Sorry if I was unclear. None of my programs are listed when I go to Control
Panel add/remove programs. There is just a blank screen with 4 icons down
the left side as follows: (1) Change or Remove Programs (2) Add New Programs
(3) Add/Remove Windows Components and (5) Set Program Accress and Defaults.
Across the top are: the words 'Currently installed programs: a check box and
the words 'Show updates' and then the words 'Sort by': and another box with
the a drop down choice of Name, Size, Frequency of Use or Date Last Used.
That is all there is. None of my programs are listed.

thanks for help.

Use Regedit and navigate to:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
Expand the Key [+] to see the stored Uninstallers. The ClassID
values will appear first, scroll down till you reach "AddressBook".
All entries should appear alphabetically below it. Some items in
this list will not normally appear in the Control Panel applet since
they are System components. Some Malware can mask out the
Uninstaller listing in Control Panel.

Doesn't Work. There is no Address Book listed in the Registry under
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall.

Did the Key (Uninstall) have "Any" sub-keys and values ?

Your listing is incomplete. Something has removed part of the
content leaving only the letter I thru P entries. One possibility
is a System Restore but if this has existed for some time then
there is no guarantee you've got Restore Points going back far
enough to retrieve the full Uninstall(er) listing. This is one of
those issues where the more you do, the worse it gets. I'm not
really sure what advice to give you.

Thanks for your help. In addition to the restore points, I use 'Acronis True
Image' to back up my entire Hard Drives every year on Dec. 31st so, if
needed, I can go back to Dec. 31 2005.

I'm sure I will get this solved sooner or later.

You might as well uninstall and throw away your copy of True Image if
you're only using it once a year. You should be imaging your drives
at least once a week or more often as required. System Restore should
never be used in place of a real backup.

Jeez, I had completely forgotten I had backed up my Registry back in
September. I created another registry backup, just in case, and then
restored the one from September and all my uninstalls came back. Appears
that everything is working Ok again.

Thanks

Thought you were following the thread so didn't reply directly to you.
Something happend to my registry which caused most of the uninstall portion
to go AWOL.
Just remembered this morning, as I was getting out of bed - really, that I
had backed up my registry back in September. I fired up my computer and
restored the registry. Everything came back OK, at least so far.

Lessons to be learnt here: Back up your Registry and, for me anyways,
remember that you had backed it up and where the backup copy is.

Thanks for your help.

Hopefully, the Registry restore won't affect things you've done between
September and the present.

I disagree. I back up all my important data files once a week but I cannot
see any point in creating a full HD image once a week. I have three HD's in
my system and I store their images on DVD-RW. I will, however, start
backing up my regisry once per week. I have heard horror stories about the
registry but this was the first time I experienced a problem. Lesson learnt.

thanks for your reply.

Guys,

Sorry for jumping into this conversation but I have a similar problem and
unable to resolve. My Add/Remove applet opens empty nothing populates in
there, basic icons and navigation buttons are there. Following instructions
given in this thread, I do have chronological listing of installed programs
after address book @
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall. I have also
followed another thread and MS KB article to check registry entries for
appwiz.cpl to register and other modules to be registered for appwiz. Of
course nothing works. Unfortunately, no registry backup available (new
install and corrupted already - but probably my fault though - as I have
messed with turning off some services). Restore took all my FireFox add-ons
so I need to get back those later - no biggy. Back to the issue, so where do
I go now ? Any information if "appwiz.cpl" depends on some services and this
the only thing I can think of as of now.
Any idea, comments, help, assistance or even a scream on me for my stupidity
is welcome. Once again, thanks for your time and help in this regard.

Hi Danial

Are you sure the Add/Remove Programs panel is really empty? Sometimes
there can be a huge white space there which makes it look as if there
aren't any listings. If you scroll right down to the end, is there
anything there at all?

I have the same problem. My Add/Remove applet is completely empty. No
possibility to scroll down. Started a thread in the German xp group, up to
now there is no solution, but I shall try kb article 266668.
